Emotional Connection

Affective development, affect-sensitive learning environments, affective experiences. These are huge research areas, but specifically for now, I’m interested in emotional engagement because knowledge (and/or cognitive potential) alone is inadequate at…

Why Adobe Captivate Isn’t Enough: A Modern Take on Learning Design

    May 28, 2025 /

So, you’re looking for an Adobe Captivate specialist? You’re not alone. Those searches dominate my site analytics. Captivate has long been a go-to for interactive eLearning. But here’s the thing: tools are just ingredients. A useful and meaningful course takes more than clicking through slides or dragging and dropping widgets. It requires thoughtful design, storytelling, and an understanding of how people actually learn. Captivate can be useful, but it’s not a magic wand. And if you’ve ever sat through a dull, forgettable training developed with Captivate, you know what I…

New Beginnings: Starting with Scribble Diffusion

    August 13, 2023 /

I’ve not written for more than a year for two reasons: 1. I started a new position. 2. I was indecisive about continuing to blog here because of cost reasons. Keeping and maintaining this website every year costs quite a bit. Having to invest more and more money each year is not making it viable for me to keep in the long run. I might go back to using Blogger, the free version. I’m back now because of RIF. Since I’ve been given permission to pursue a new adventure, let’s…

Project XR: 2022 Sanditon Escape Room

    March 1, 2022 /

It has taken me quite a while to build this 2022 digital escape room because of the 3D planning and programming. Those of you who are aware of the 2021 Sanditon Escape room may have read this explanation of how to plan for and design a digital escape room (DER). In this 3D 360 VR DER, there are several scenes. Once again, the scenario for the DER is provided in the initial scenes: Joy Jambalaya (JJ) is a top sleuth who had been captured because she found out who the…

ProjectXR Day6? Animated Valentine’s Day Card (CoSpaces)

    February 17, 2022 /

It doesn’t seem to just be Day 6. It’s fine. The number is just an arbitrary one. I’ve been plugging away at my 3D design and development skills. In between these sessions, I’ve had some other urgent tasks to attend to, but on Valentine’s Day, I tweaked a template in CoSpaces to create a #ValentinesDay greeting for my significant other. Last year was a very difficult year for him health-wise, and thus, it was for me. I’m so glad that I get to spend another Valentine’s Day together with him.

    #ProjectXR Update: 3D Generalist (Jan 22, 2022)

    January 22, 2022 /

To date, I’ve been learning to use apps in Column 2 from multiple classes (Column 1) — and I found a name for what I’m becoming professionally, as an enlargement of my skillset; a 3D generalist. My knowledge about these tools keep growing as I read and get to know more people in the field. Table 1: XR development apps (Last Update: Jan 24, 2022).

Learning Figma and CoSpaces (#30DaysXR, Day 4?)

    January 20, 2022 /

I’ve been busy setting up my new MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip (16GB, 1 TB). I had to upgrade my 2018 MacBook Pro because learning to build XR apps had eaten up all my hard disk space. Unity3D, XCode, Visual Studio for Mac, VRoid, and all the other apps I had to install to make the assets had me down to my final 30 GB of space, and the laptop just couldn’t run fast enough. Folks, XR is an expensive venture! I did not continue with the School of…

Simple AR Layering with Halo AR App (#30DaysXR, #Day3)

    January 12, 2022 /

Today, I finally completed a halo using the Halo AR app. It took me a while to figure out how to use it from start to finish (sharing the finished product). There was little or no documentation, but there was a Discord channel for Halo creators, so that helped me a bit. There was one YouTube video on how to create a halo, but it was still rather unclear. If you need some info, contact me. Essentially, here are some instructions that have been left out: You must create the…

Interactive Augmented Reality (AR) Business Card (#30DaysXR, Day 1)

    January 3, 2022 /

YouTube is a treasure trove of learning possibilities. My latest and first 2022 learning adventure involved learning to build an AR-enhanced business card. Voila! Here it is. To play in AR mode, scan the QR code. You can download a QR code scanner from your mobile phone’s store (Apple App store or Google Play). Acknowledgements: Much appreciation to Monica of Academic Phoenix Plus for the tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the world. It’s Official! I’m a Verified Adobe Certified Professional in Captivate

    February 2, 2021 /
Adobe Certified Professional: Adobe Captivate official verified certificate for Yin Kreher. She is certified in various elearning skills, including elearning authoring, responsive design, online training, responsive elearning, VR training.

Update March 26, 2025: The certification expired on January 31, 2023. Renewal of certification is a work in progress.  Official Badge Link I am feeling emotional about this accomplishment; it has been a journey to get to this destination. I taught myself to use Adobe Captivate round about 2004 while I was a Master’s student. I used it to create software simulations and tutorials for Blackboard LMS support at Syracuse University. The software was not as robust then and ownership belonged to Macromedia. Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2006. Captivate has…

Concept and Technique: How to Build a Digital Escape Room

    January 25, 2021 /
a female detective's silhouette with title text beside her, "Get Me Out of Here!"

Background This is a hot topic among many K12 teachers, and we could definitely use this in higher ed and in industry. Last November, I was inspired by a session at AECT to make a digital escape room. If you have access to this AECT 2020 session, it’s called Escape Rooms: Pedagogy without Borders. The presenters were Tracy Russo, Ferris State University; Kalianne Lund Neumann, Andrea Ramirez Salgado, and Frances M Alvarado-Albertorio, all from Oklahoma State University. Check out their article, Online Approaches for Implementing a Digital Escape Room with…
