Instructional Design

Yin's Instructional Design Process: Define, design, develop & demonstrate, deliver & deploy, refine

Every course design is philosophy and belief in action. – University of Edinburgh, 2011

[NOTE: In 2005, during graduate studies in instructional design, we had to design our own ID models. The above model is what I developed. To all the curious folks who like to know and ask an ID specialist about models, this is in general the iterative process I use in my work.]

Design is conceiving and giving form to artifacts that solve problems (Ulrich, 2011); the conscious creation of forms to serve human needs (Krippendorf & Butter, 1984). So it is. I wear many hats to design courses/training:

Coursera’s vision is “a world where anyone, anywhere has the power to transform their life through learning.” I embrace this vision and continue to create and support access to education through what I design.

At the University of Illinois, I created stackable core and elective courses in two specializations: Federal Taxation and Financial Reporting.

Faculty Professional Development

Supporting staff and faculty members with professional development opportunities and a community of learning/practice is vital for high quality teaching and learning in higher education. The following are samples of my work in this field.

Being a reflective practitioner is important for my professional growth. The following are samples of my latest reflections on my professional work and collaborations with other scholars.
