Project XR: 2022 Sanditon Escape Room
It has taken me quite a while to build this 2022 digital escape room because of the 3D planning and programming.
Those of you who are aware of the 2021 Sanditon Escape room may have read this explanation of how to plan for and design a digital escape room (DER).
In this 3D 360 VR DER, there are several scenes. Once again, the scenario for the DER is provided in the initial scenes:
Joy Jambalaya (JJ) is a top sleuth who had been captured because she found out who the thieves were who stole the script to the new Sanditon series. The learner’s goal is to solve three puzzles using their ability to recall some trivia of Sanditon’s plot, characters and background.
The three challenges begin in Scene 4.
Challenge 1: Click on the padlock to answer a Sanditon Season 1 plot question. A correct response will free Joy from the cell.
This is how it looks in Play mode after passing Challenge 1. On a mobile phone, you can navigate using the left buttons to walk. Use a finger to swipe left or right in the 360 environment. The right button is for jumps. But you don’t need to jump in this game.
Challenge 2: Click on the dome-shaped button on the glass cell to answer a Sanditon 1 trivia question. A correct answer will lead you to Challenge 3.
Challenge 3: To reach challenge 3, after you correctly answer challenge 2, the glass cell will shatter and the red button will show up. Click on the red button to go to the final challenge, a parkour game/obstacle course.
Once you press the red button, you will be teleported to the parkour game/obstacle course. The following image is an overview of the obstacle course. There are moving platforms and glass planks (a la Squid Game style; one of the two planks will shatter if you walk on it; there will be a sound effect too!). Your goal is to walk (navigate using the buttons) through the whole course to reach the final platform with the north star and answer a Sanditon question there. If you miss a step, you will fall onto the lava floor and have to restart.
It’s best to play this game on a mobile device. I have tested this multiple times and it works best for me on a tablet, my iPadPro. If you are unfamiliar with gaming and how to navigate in a 3D environment, it will take a while to warm up and learn how to navigate in 3D/360 environments.
At the end of Challenge 3, the parkour game, you will have to tap on the north star to answer a Sanditon 1 trivia question. When you get it correct, there will be a congratulatory message. Tap the “X” to exit after reading.
