Finding Your Team
Watching the Winter Olympics was a fixture in my life in the early days of my arrival in the USA. It became a tradition every four years from January to February. It was the same when I was going through grad school. I was glued to my tiny fourteen-inch CRT TV. Figure skating, especially, inspired and encouraged me. I was riveted by the beauty and courage of the Olympians. They held me up when I was on the verge of throwing in the towel.
Needless to say, I have been rooting for Nathan Chen for a while. No words can describe our joy, relief, and thankfulness to know he has clinched the gold. And again, behind that victory, never forget the countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed in preparation for those few performance minutes.
Watching his videos and hearing him talk about his team encouraged me to persevere in my search for my next professional position.
The most important thing in finding success in this sport is just to find your team. It’s very difficult to achieve anything by yourself. So, finding a team, working together with that team, to achieve whatever goals you have set out for yourself makes you a champion in itself. – Nathan Chen, Olympic figure skater, gold medalist
